Third Platoon at Fire Base Evelyn in 1971
Fire Base Evelyn was located on QL1, east of FSB Mace. When 3rd platoon was at Evelyn, 2nd platoon was at FB Judy a few miles west. Both platoons ran similar missions: fire base security, daylight recon into the surrounding forest, and road security and checkpoints.

At fire bases, entertainment was loosely defined, but front row seats were cheap. An "air show" caused this standing ovation. From the Jerry Smith Collection
Air Show at Fire Base Evelyn in February 1971
It was alway a pleasure to watch the air show put on by our brothers-in-arms, the helicopter drivers. They could do things with those things that would make an eagle proud.
