Delta Troop's Rides

Sgt. Jerry Smith's photographs show the troop in its incarnation as a mounted reconnaissance unit. We used the gun jeeps for mounted ambushes, convoy security, and hauling around our barbecues. Delta Troop also made "Thunder Runs" - recon by fire at night in jeeps running down a roadway - at Nhon Trach, Lai Khe, and Tay Ninh in 1971.

Third Platoon Jeeps

There is no truth to the rumor that Delta Troop played volleyball in jeeps.
It is true that Delta Troop played volleyball by "Jungle Rules", which
specified that all players must be bare-knuckled and each side must be
mostly unarmed. There was no referee. Disputes were settled by threats
and shouting.
